Professional experience

☆ English-language consultant: PrePublication Services

I have had extensive experience (more than 20 years) working as an English-language consultant for Swedish academics and postgraduate students with English as a second language. I specialise in grooming medical/paramedical English-language manuscripts (scientific articles, theses, etc.) for publication.

☆ Medical writer and project manager

I am also an experienced medical writer and project manager. I was employed for more than 20 years by an international medical publishing company based in New Zealand (Adis, a Wolters Kluwer business). During that time I researched, evaluated and summarised thousands of medical articles in order to write numerous quality comprehensive drug reviews, which were then published in international drug review journals.

☆ Technical editor

While working for Adis, my technical editing skills were developed. I was responsible for checking the technical content of numerous drug-related manuscripts written by colleagues for publication in international drug review journals. I also have extensive experience in training medical writers/editors.

☆ Journal Editor

I was Editor-in-Chief of BioDrugs, an international review journal in the biomedical field, for 3 years. This position involved technical editing and project management tasks along with commissioning medical review articles by international experts, for publication. This required me to keep up to date with emerging relevant literature.

☆ Hospital pharmacist

Earlier in my life, I worked for 5 years as a hospital pharmacist at Christchurch Hospital Pharmacy.

☆ Tertiary training

I have relevant tertiary training: a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from Otago University, Dunedin, New Zealand.

My approach

I am an independent, self-motivated, self-disciplined worker with very good organisational, project management and time-management skills (of especial value for work involving deadlines).

I have a creative and flexible approach to work requirements and problem solving and my clients receive appropriate friendly attention, based on integrity and respect.

My communication and interpersonal skills are excellent, and I am computer literate with fast, accurate word-processing skills.

I have excellent work ethics, a professional approach, and excellent writing skills and grammatical accuracy.

I am able to access, understand, summarise and evaluate a wide variety of complicated technical medical data, and to reproduce those data in an easily accessible form.

I am able to present work in a variety of styles, within prescribed time and word limits and in the required format. I’m thoroughly conversant with medical terminology.
